JAPAN, 19th century
Carved boxwood okimono, signed Haramitsu

Provenance: French family collection. Supposedly brought back from Asia in the mid-twentieth century by a family relative known as Marcel. The presence of a book dedicated by Michel Beurdeley to Marcel (1962) testifies to his interest in Far Eastern art. Passed down through the generations to the current owners.
Comparison: For a very similar netsuke, see the MET Museum collections under inventory no. 91.1.1010.
