JAPAN, Meiji period Album of photographs Album with black embossed leather cover with embossed decoration and gilt metal clasp, comprising 50 albumen photographs, several of which are hand-coloured. The set features Japanese genre scenes: portraits of women in kimono, interior scenes, travelling merchants and views of daily life. These albums, made for Western clients during the Meiji period, are part of the so-called "Yokohama school", renowned for their finely staged, hand-coloured photographs.
