Background:
Federico Kromka (1890–1942)
An artist of Czechoslovak origin associated with the École de Paris, Federico Kromka was active in the vibrant artistic milieu of Montparnasse during the interwar period. His work is part of the late Cubist movement, enriched by geometric explorations and, at times, subtle Surrealist influences. His compositions demonstrate a remarkable mastery of the construction of forms and a keen sense of visual balance. Deported during the Second World War, he remains a discreet yet endearing figure of the Parisian avant-garde. The work on display fully illustrates the qualities that make his work so compelling today: rigorous composition, a modern pictorial language and graphic elegance.
