Auguste RODIN (1840-1917) Jean d'Aire (A Burgher of Calais) Proof in patinated bronze, signed, bears the relief stamp A. Rodin, Alexis Rudier fondeur. Height: 46.5 cm Model created in 1895 and cast by Rudier at the request of Georges Grappe for the Rodin exhibition organised by G. & L. Bollag at the Hotel Savoy in Zurich in 1927. Provenance: - Commissioned by Georges Grappe from the Rudier foundry on 30 June 1927 (Ph.1). - Delivery from the Rudier foundry to the Rodin Museum on 27 September 1927 - G. & L. Bollag, Zurich (Ph.2). - M. &. Mme Blattmann-Ziegler, acquired from the previous owner on 5 December 1927 for the sum of 12,000 Francs (Ph.3). - By descent to the present owner. Exhibition : - 7 November - 19 November 1927, Zurich, Hôtel Savoy, G. & L. Bollag, Exposition des œuvres de Rodin éditée par le Musée Rodin, Paris, our copy on display (Ph.4 &5).
