Like all painters, Léger regularly worked in series around the same theme. He might begin with a small format that he would later enlarge. There is another version dating from 1949, with a few variations, measuring 92 x 65 cm.
André Beaudin, a painter from the École de Paris, married Suzanne Roger in 1919. She was a pupil of Fernand Léger and retained his technique of flat tints. Friends of Max Jacob, André Beaudin and Suzanne Roger also frequented the circle of intellectuals close to the Kahnweilers, including Juan Gris, Masson and Leiris.
Suzanne Roger, André Beaudin and Fernand Léger all exhibited at the Louise Leiris Simon gallery. - Expert : Agnès SEVESTRE-BARBE
