Description
Emile GALLE (1846–1904) Marsault Willow and Bees, a design created around 1893–1895 VASE. A moulded, blown glass piece in a cylindrical shape with a hexagonal neck, tinted yellow and amber. The body is decorated with a design in slight relief, enamelled with lifelike bees flitting amongst branches and pollen. The base features a design in slight relief, etched and coloured throughout with honeycomb motifs. Circular base with a slight curve. Signed in slight relief, engraved with a point under the base: ‘Emile Gallé delt’, within a frame of honeycomb motifs. Height: 24.5 cm; Diameter: 10.5 cm Related exhibition: ‘Goûter le Monde, le Banquet des Merveilles’, Champagne Wine and Regional Archaeology Museum, Épernay, 16 September – 11 December 2023; a piece with a similar design is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue.
