Some of the most famous works by Luba sculptors, the "cup bearers" are at the crossroads of two institutions: divination and prophecy. Their corpus reveals several workshops that flourished as the kingdom expanded. The cup carried by the female figure alludes to the mboko - a calabash containing small objects used for divination - one of the most precious possessions of the Bilumbu diviners.
