Masks, sculptures and ritual objects from Africa and Oceania

Masks, sculptures and ritual objects from Africa and Oceania.

Works of tribal and ethnographic art from Africa, Oceania, pre-Columbian America and South-East Asia, from traditional non-Western cultures. The selection includes ritual masks, wooden sculptures, cult objects, ceremonial tools, tribal weapons and sacred textiles. These pieces, often used in religious, initiatory or social contexts, embody the craftsmanship and symbolic skills of ancient or still active civilisations. Each object expresses a precise function: protection, the memory of ancestors, rites of passage or communication with the spirits. We find African Baoulé masks, Dogon statuettes, Kongo fetishes, ceremonial drums from Oceania, ritual fabrics from South-East Asia, and pre-Columbian figurines. Carved wood, ivory, bronze, stone and natural fibres are the materials most frequently used. These objects of primitive art are of interest to collectors and enthusiasts of ancient cultures, as well as to lovers of raw aesthetics and symbolic form.
