Description
Vietnam. Jarai or Bahnar, Central Highlands Ladder Hardwood. Wear and tear from age and the elements. Height: 216 cm. The Jarai and Bahnar belong to the large family of the ‘Mountain People’ and live on the Central Highlands of Vietnam, near the borders with Cambodia and Laos. This ladder is organised around a vertical axis punctuated by a succession of six rungs, ending in two protrusions and two horns. Beyond its primary utilitarian and symbolic function, this ladder possesses genuine architectural quality and a timeless, understated aesthetic.
