TWO HUAXIANG BRONZE MIRRORS
Late Eastern Han Dynasty, 2nd/3rd century AD
Finely cast with the central hemispherical boss encircled by a ring of four deities including Xiwangmu and Dongwanggong and stylised beasts, enclosed by a narrow band of alternating square and semi-circular panels circled by a dogtooth border, the raised rim with a band of small immortals, birds and dragons, the bronze a smooth grey patina with patches of malachite encrustation; the smaller mirror similarly cast with figures and stylised beasts, the bronze a smooth patina.
16 cm (6 1/4 in.) and 8.5 cm (3 3/8 in.) diam. (2).
