24. 24W BLACK-LACQUERED COMPOSITE ARMOUR WITH ZUNARI HELMET
Japan, Edo period (1615–1868), 19th century
The black-lacquered iron armour, laced in blue and white, comprising:
a zunari kabuto, fitted with a blue-laced three-lame shikoro, adorned with a metal chrysanthemum family crest (maedate);
the menpō with horsehair moustache and beard, fitted with a four-lame yodarekake laced in blue, white, green and orange;
the ni-mai yokohagi dō, fitted with six sections of four-lame kusazuri, with a five-lame chū-sode, kusari kote, kawara haidate and shino suneate; with one wooden storage box.
kabuto (bowl) 22 cm (8 1/2 in.); menpō 17.8 cm (7 in.) (2).
