Japan, Edo period (1615–1868)/Meiji era (1868–1912), 19th/20th century
Made of fuki-urushi (clear-lacquered) wood, in standard form with a kabusebuta (overhanging lid), the top and sides decorated with the imperial kikumon and kirimon (chrysanthemum and paulownia crests) in gold hiramaki-e lacquer; iron fittings and carrying handles.
