GUYOT Georges Lucien (1885–1973) ‘The Fierce Lioness’ Bronze with a brown patina, cast by Alexis Rudier. Height: 25 cm. Length: 61 cm and Width: 27 cm. Signed on the base ‘G. GUYOT’ and stamped ‘Alexis RUDIER. Fondeur PARIS’, circa 1920. An exceptional and rare sculpture by Guyot, cast by Alexis Rudier. We would like to thank Mr Pierre Dumonteil, an expert on the work of G.L. Guyot, for the information he has kindly provided. Provenance: This work, acquired by a famous writer, has been preserved by his descendants. Georges Guyot was in vogue from the early 20th century onwards. In 1931, he joined the ‘Groupe des Douze’ founded by François POMPON. He occupied Picasso’s studio at the Bateau-Lavoir, where he died on 31 December 1972. The RUDIER foundry, founded by Alexis Rudier (?–1897) and his son Eugène Rudier (1879–1952), worked for the great sculptors of its time, including Auguste Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle, Gustave Miklos and Aristide Maillol.
