Description
LITERATURE. Pierre SEGHERS, a collection of 9 letters or postcards (7 typed, handwritten, and handwritten on typescript) in which Seghers expresses his friendship and admiration for her. He thanks her most warmly for this fine novel, the brilliance of which I suspect. In another letter, the publisher refers to her record, which he has listened to, and clearly considers that she has made considerable progress. The four songs are good [These are from her first record, recorded in 1967: *Il ne faut pas* / *Regarde comme je tremble* / *J’irais à Naples* / *Un jour je partirai*]. You write far better than many people who have been made into stars.... This is an unquestionable endorsement of quality. So, well done! On the autographed card, signed with her monogram, the publisher offers her this elegant tribute: ‘In Montparnasse, only the flowers of friendship and poetry bloom…’ Thank you, Sandra, with my best wishes and my constant thoughts. Enclosed are four autograph letters signed by the novelist, Colette Seghers, the publisher’s wife, all of whose letters are all the more charming and warm towards Sandra Jayat. 6 pages of various sizes. Paris, 30 January, 22 May and 16 October 1985, and 6 February 1990. 2 envelopes retained. Pierre Seghers is still away in Sweden and is replying on his behalf regarding receipt of the catalogue, and I know that Pierre will be just as moved as I am by its beauty and by the success you have so rightly achieved – so much so that I cannot resist the urge to tell you… . In 1990 (probably in relation to the Gulf War), she wrote these few lines to him: ‘We watch, powerless, and for my generation, stunned that no previous horror has taught mankind anything about the abomination of war....’Do you read the magazine (Poésie 91)? I’d like to send you the February issue. It contains three anti-war poems that deeply moved me... . She confirmed that her husband, who was away at the time, was fully in favour of joining the Honorary Committee.
