Description
VALDA LOZENGES: Respiratory ailments, works wonders. Rectangular enamelled advertising plaque from 1936 with scalloped edges, depicting Michèle Morgan, illustrated by Robert Falcucci, marked ‘Emaillerie Alsacienne Strasbourg’. Dimensions: 97 x 40 cm. Slight wear and touch-ups. The history of the Valda brand began in 1905 in Paris, when Henri-Edmond Canonne, an apothecary from Lille with a passion for microbiology, decided to create a small ball of soft paste rich in gum arabic: this marked the birth of Valda lozenges. The five antiseptic ingredients in Valda lozenges are peppermint, eucalyptus, thyme, guaiac wood and Landes pine. The origin of the ‘Valda’ brand name comes from the combination of two Latin words, valetudo (‘health’) and dare (the verb ‘to give’).
