Description
UDERZO (1927–2020).
‘The Other Oak’.
‘Pierre Tchernia Collection’.
This sequence is characteristic of the comic book *Le Domaine des Dieux* (1971), in which the Gauls use magic acorns to make oak trees grow instantly in order to thwart a Roman property development project. It is also a nod, via the homophony of the word, to Pierre Tchernia – or “Monsieur Cinéma” – to whom this piece was gifted. A very close friend of Goscinny, he co-wrote several animated films (Cleopatra, The Twelve Labours). Pierre Tchernia is often caricatured as a Roman in the comic books. Signed by Uderzo and Goscinny.
Gouache and Indian ink.
