Augustin Guichot (born in 1993) The Corner of the High Street Oil on canvas – 46 x 27 cm As a former student of 2D animation, drawing plays a central role in my artistic practice. I taught myself oil painting in order to discover another form of expression that would combine colour and drawing. My aim is to seek out poetry in everyday settings, to highlight a form of beauty that is not immediately apparent. My influences include the realist and impressionist paintings of Degas and those of the Ashcan School. The sun was shining brightly that day, making the green of the façade stand out with a milky glow. I wanted to capture this street corner bathed in sunlight, giving way to the silence of the afternoon.
