The little girls playing with puppets are identified as Nelly and Eugène Girardet. Nelly Girardet went on to marry Louis Breguet, the aeroplane manufacturer. The boat, depicted on several occasions under the name ‘Hélène’, belongs to the Cercle de la Voile de Paris. Its owner, Louis Rousselet, can be recognised in one of the drawings. Founded in 1858, the Cercle de la Voile de Paris (CVP) had close ties with Gustave Caillebotte (vice-president, naval architect and formidable regatta sailor) as well as with the Girardet family.
