Description
BACCARAT – Early 19th century Fan-shaped goblet in moulded, satin-finished crystal, decorated with butterflies, koi carp and Asian foliage. Design created in 1878. Signature embossed in the mould. H.: 13.5 cm Reference: ‘Le Génie verrier de l’Europe’ by Giuseppe Cappa, published by Mardaga. The Baccarat crystal works marked the height of the Japonism movement in France at the 1878 Paris World’s Fair. At that time, it broke with its own geometric traditions to incorporate the asymmetrical and naturalistic aesthetic from Japan.
