SEVRES, Manufacture Impériale
A Sèvres blue or bleu de four porcelain tea service with gilded decoration of lambrequins, gadroons and fillets, comprising a cup and saucer, a covered sugar bowl, a milk jug and a teapot.
On the reverse, maker's marks in green and dated "S50" for the teapot and sugar bowl, "S68" for the cup and "S69" for the saucer. Factory decoration mark in red brown "S69" for all pieces and various painters marks.
Very slight wear.
Teapot: 13 x 23 cm, sugar bowl: 14 x 17 cm, milk jug: 13 x 11 cm, saucer: 18 cm.
Provenance: Given to Marguerite Termier, daughter of Pierre Termier, a French geologist born in Lyon in 1859 who specialised in the Alps, when she was at boarding school in Lille and kept in the family ever since.
