Description
A NOTABLE CLOCK known as the ‘trumpet clock’, made of moulded and carved walnut, the gable-fronted case features ‘Jägerstil’ decoration in full-round and high relief, carved from oak and other hardwoods, depicting an armed hunter lighting his pipe and a roe deer on rocks, surmounted by an eagle. The mechanism unfolds two hinged chalet-style doors to reveal a chime figure and a hunter, both in plaster and polychrome composition, dressed in traditional costume; the hands are cut from bone; the dial features blue-enamelled Roman numerals; the chime strikes a gong (minor losses to the decoration, mechanism in need of servicing, restoration to the bird’s beak, a few scattered losses, small old woodworm holes treated). GERMANY, Black Forest region, attributed to Emilian WEHRLME, based in Furtwagen-Schönenbach. c. 1870–1890. Height: 102 cm. Width: 64 cm.
