Description
TIOLIER Nicolas-Pierre (1784–1853): IMPRINT OF THE GREAT SEAL OF LOUIS XVIII (1757–1824) in green wax, affixed to red and green silk ribbons. On the obverse, a depiction of Louis XVIII seated in majesty upon a throne with lion’s heads and paws, against a background decorated with fleurs-de-lis, surrounded by a frieze alternating fleurs-de-lis and crowns. On the reverse, the Coats of Arms of France and Navarre, surrounded by the collars of the Order of the Holy Spirit and the Order of Saint Michael, resting on a sceptre and a cross-shaped hand of justice, surmounted by a royal crown. Around the rim are the inscriptions ‘Louis XVIII King of France and Navarre’. An accompanying letter dates the die to 1816. Presented in its protective tin-plated iron case (very good condition). Diameter 12.2 cm. Depth 1.1 cm. Weight 120 g. Weight including box: 258 g.
