Description
HUSSAR SABRE made of steel and brass, the hilt covered with filigree of twisted copper wires. Single-barred guard, curvilinear diamond-shaped lugs, quillon with a square pommel and a flat cap with diamond-shaped rivet buttons featuring long tails. Curved blade, blued to one-third its length, with hollow edges and a counter-edge; inscribed on the obverse with ‘Vive la République Françoise’ surmounted by a charging hussar, and on the reverse with ‘Vivat’, also surmounted by a charging hussar. Gilded brass scabbard trimmed with a black leather chape, fitted with two rings and an asymmetrical iron tip (guard slightly misshapen, small chip on the edge of the hilt, minor wear to the bluing, the sabre does not fit all the way into the scabbard, and there are losses and wear to the black leather grip). Revolutionary period. Blade length 85 cm. Back edge length 26 cm. Overall length 101 cm.
