Description
FRENCH SCHOOL, c. 1830, after Jean Victor BERTIN: ‘Young Woman at the Fountain in Front of a Door’, oil on canvas, in a stuccoed and gilded wooden frame decorated with acanthus and laurel leaves with crossed ribbons (previous restorations). Dimensions: 47 x 34 cm. Expert: Cabinet Eric Turquin – Paris, Mrs Philippine Motais de Narbonne.
The same composition of this sun-drenched courtyard, viewed through an archway, can be found in a painting by Bertin
from the J.E. Safra collection, which was sold at Christie’s in New York on 4 May 2023, lot 46. The main difference is that
the scene is empty; another painting with the same composition was sold at Sotheby’s.
