Description
Silver mustard pot, PARIS 1781–1782 by René-Pierre FERRIER, who was granted his master’s certificate in 1775. Resting on three ‘claw’ feet, the cylindrical body features an openwork design comprising three medallions, one of which bears the coat of arms of the de MONTAULT (of SAINT-SIVIER) in GASCONY, surrounded by olive branches and garlands of roses in three compartments separated by pilasters embellished with flowers and cascading ribbons. The handle, formed of a volute and counter-volute, is accented with acanthus leaves and pearls. The hinged lid is adorned with a row of pearls, a groove of hollow gadroons surmounted by a terrace topped with a seed surrounded by foliage (minor losses). Blue crystal interior. Included is a silver mustard spoon, PROVINCE, 18th century, probably from NORTHERN FRANCE, made by a silversmith marked ‘D.E’ or ‘D.F’ and re-hallmarked with a second cock. Total net weight 114 g. Height 10.5 cm.
