Description
OIL AND VINEGAR JAR WITH TWO SILVER STOPS, Minerva hallmark, 1st Title, PARIS, 19th century, by VEYRAT. In a naturalistic style, it consists of two bottle holders resting on a base; one is formed from olive branches and the other from vine shoots, whose sinuous extensions rise and coil to form the central handle. On the sides, the branches support two salt cellars and four stopper holders formed from gnarled branches, flowers and foliage (minor losses). Total weight 1863 g. Length 25.5 cm. Width 18 cm. Height 25.5 cm. Bibliography: Comparable to the tea fountain with naturalistic decoration by Maison ODIOT dating from the 1840s, an example of which is held at the Louvre (see *19th-Century French Silverwork* by Anne DION-TENENBAUM, p. 226).
