Description
LEROY. A circular stained-glass window based on a medallion from the Zodiac Stained-Glass Window at Chartres Cathedral (bay 28a). The one depicted represents the month of February, known as ‘The Fish’ and ‘Ichtus’. Signed in the bottom right-hand corner ‘LEROY after CHARTRES’. Diameter: 60 cm February is the coldest month, so work in the fields comes to a halt. A man stays warm, sitting by the fire, wrapped in thick clothing to keep himself warm. Sausages are hanging over the fire to be smoked. Next to him, two fish are tied together with a string, symbolising the links between the Old and New Testaments. These fish also recall the Christian symbol of the Ichthys, which stands for ‘Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour’.
