Born into a dynasty of silversmiths, Jean-Baptiste Odiot’s career began under the Ancien Régime, but it was during the Consulate and subsequently the Empire that his talent came to the fore, notably through prestigious commissions such as Bonaparte’s consular sword and the cradle of the King of Rome, created in collaboration with the bronze-smith Thomire.
With the Restoration and the return of the Bourbons to power, Odiot enjoyed renewed success, particularly amongst émigrés and European diplomats.
