Description
A ‘selfish’ set comprising: A silver jug, a cup and its saucer, decorated with an engraved medallion featuring foliage and a flowering stem (undated), a motif repeated on the cup and saucer, the jug’s handle features a leaf-entwined scroll design, a hinged lid and a spout shaped like a leafy seed, set upon a moulded base. Minerve 1st Class, Master Silversmith: Chauchefoin & Co., hallmarked in 1859, struck off in 1865. Height of jug: 13.5 cm, diameter of cup: 8.5 cm, diameter of saucer: 11.5 cm. Weight of the three pieces: 323 g. A small chip to the rim of the lid; the handle requires slight straightening. Box marked with the Imperial Crown and ‘N E’ for Eugénie Napoléon, blue velvet interior, length 29.5 cm, width 20 cm. Some missing parts and damage. According to family tradition, a gift from Empress Eugénie to a member of this family. 3 pieces.
