‘Louis, by the grace of God, King of France and Navarre. ’ – Letter patent on vellum, conferring the title of baron upon Henri-Constant Mazeau de la Tannière, dated 17 August 1821, during the reign of Louis XVIII. Painted coat of arms (shown signs of wear). Preserved in its iron-sheet case, with a wax seal depicting King Louis XVIII in majesty. (Slight stains)
Henri-Constant Mazeau de la Tannière was a former Commissioner of War and a Knight of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Louis. During the Second Restoration, he was elevated to the rank of baron by letters patent from Louis XVIII, in recognition of his services to the Crown.
Coat of arms: Per pale, argent and or; in the first field, on the dexter side a natural oak branch and on the sinister side a sword azure; in the second, on the dexter side a lion sable emerging from a den vert rising from the dexter flank, and on the sinister side a beehive sable flanked by a swarm of bees, the shield surmounted by a baronial crown.
Painted coat of arms: Per argent and or, the first charged on the dexter side with a natural oak branch and on the sinister side with a sword azure, the second charged on the dexter side with a lion sable issuing from a green den rising from the dexter flank, and on the sinister side with a beehive flanked by a swarm of bees, the swarm sable, the shield surmounted by a baron’s crown.
