‘Louis, by the grace of God, King of France and Navarre.’ – Letter patent on vellum, constituting a title deed in the name of Edme-François-Jules COLLIBEAUX, dated 10 January 1821, during the reign of Louis XVIII. Painted coat of arms (shown signs of wear). Preserved in its iron-sheet case, with a wax seal depicting King Louis XVIII in majesty. Edme-François-Jules Collibeaux (Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, 4 September 1788 – Paris, 8 April 1846) was a commissaire des guerres under the First Empire and served in the campaigns of the Grande Armée, notably in Spain. A member of the Collibeaux family, he inherited the estate of Champvallon through his mother. During the Restoration, the estate of Champvallon was elevated to a barony by royal decree of 10 January 1821, a date which corresponds precisely to the document presented here. Edme-François-Jules Collibeaux henceforth bore the title of Baron of Champvallon. He was also a Knight and later an Officer of the Legion of Honour, as well as a Knight of the Orders of Saint Louis and Ferdinand of Spain. He was a member of the Yonne General Council and mayor of Champvallon. He died in Paris in 1846 and was buried in Champvallon, where his grave is still preserved within the burial enclosure of the last lords of Champvallon. Coat of arms: The family’s coat of arms is described by Henri Jougla de Morenas in the *Grand Armorial de France*, under the name ‘Collebeaux de Champvallon’: azure, a chevron or, accompanied in chief by two flanks and in base by a shell, all of the same.
