Description
Jean-Marc ROLLAND, known as Marc VUBASSONE (20th century).
“Rhinoceros”.
Painted metal sculpture.
H: 85 – W: 55 – D: 240 cm.
Provenance:
This work forms part of a charitable performance organised jointly in 2018 by Orléans Town Hall, the Rotary Club and an auctioneer from Orléans.
All those involved worked voluntarily for the benefit of sick children in urgent need of an expensive prosthetic hand.
The City Council therefore invited (and provided, on the Quai du Châtelet, the necessary electricity and metals) all the metal sculptors in the region for a weekend, with the task of creating, within 48 hours, a work of their own choosing but on the theme of the Loire.
Of course, the connection between the Loire and a rhinoceros is not immediately obvious, except to a highly knowledgeable sculptor who knew that, at the mouth of the Loire before the Common Era, such animals used to live there.
