A rare ‘kōtiate parāoa’, a short club made from the bone of a marine mammal, reserved for chiefs and high-ranking warriors.
Its pommel is carved with a tiki figure executed with great skill, whilst the shaft is perforated to accommodate a wrist strap.
The blade, which is flattened, has an anthropomorphic shape with broad, balanced curves, featuring curved notches on the sides – a characteristic feature of kōtiate. Its form, of remarkable sculptural elegance, is reminiscent of a violin.
