A carved boxwood statuette of a saint depicted standing, wearing a closed crown with fleur-de-lis motifs set upon a long veil, dressed in a long gown with godrons and a ceremonial cloak at the front, with a fleur-de-lis on the back. It stands on an oval base adorned with a circular medallion carved in bas-relief, depicting an eight-pointed cross known as the Maltese Cross within a wreath of foliage. 17th/18th century. Height: 23.5 cm (visible damage). This powerful symbolism suggests it may have been commissioned by someone with a particular devotion within the Sovereign Order of Malta.
