CHINA, Qing dynasty, 18th century,
A large incense burner, rectangular in shape with a base indented on all four sides, made of bronze and cloisonné enamel, with a polychrome decoration of stylised taotie masks. The interior and reverse of the vessel are adorned with lotus flowers amidst foliage scrolls and plum blossoms on a turquoise background. The handles emerge from gilded bronze dragon heads, embellished with Greek fret friezes. (The bowl shows slight damage, small chips, scratches and signs of wear.) Expert: Ansas, Papillon & de Léry
