10737-1000 / CH SDB / Hilaire Colcombet (after), Amalfi, print on silk, Bucol, c. 1985, patterned silk printed in vivid polychrome on a lime-green background, decorated with a blue tree trunk covered in climbing flowers. Framed, 144 x 114 cm. Since 1924, Bucol has been a key partner to French Haute Couture, supplying houses such as Chanel, Balenciaga, Dior and Hermès, the latter’s holding company it joined in 2001. Based in Pierre-Bénite, the quality of its prints is recognised worldwide. In 1982, H. Colcombet (1916–2012), its director, turned his attention to contemporary design by commissioning renowned artists such as Alechinsky, Hartung and Matta, and also provided the factory with his own original designs.
