10737-1003 / CH / Hilaire Colcombet (after), Amalfi, print on silk, Bucol, c. 1985, patterned silk printed in vivid polychrome on a green background, featuring a pink tree trunk covered in climbing flowers. Framed, 144 x 114 cm. Since 1924, Bucol has been a key partner to French Haute Couture, supplying houses such as Chanel, Balenciaga, Dior and Hermès, joining the latter’s holding company in 2001. Based in Pierre-Bénite, the quality of its prints is recognised worldwide. In 1982, H. Colcombet (1916–2012), its director, turned his attention to contemporary design by commissioning established artists such as Alechinsky, Hartung and Matta, and also provided the workshop with his own original designs.
