Augustin, Benedictine monk of the Congregation of St Vanne and St Hydulphe) A literal commentary on all the books of the Old Testament: The Maccabees. Paris. Published by Pierre Emery, 1712. Large 4° format. Full light brown sheepskin binding. Ribbed spine, each panel adorned with the crowned monogram of the Colbert family. In the centre of each cover, the Colbert coat of arms – the snake [coluber, in Latin] within a circle encircled by the unicorn [integrity] and a dog [loyalty] within a circle edged with a double gilt border.
