Description
DEMAISON (André) – JOUVE (Paul). The Book of Beasts Known as Wild. Paris, Lausanne: Les Frères Gonin, 1934. — Folio, 449 x 325: (3 leaves, the first two blank), 122 pp., (4 leaves, the last two blank), illustrated cover. Loose sheets, in the publisher’s folder and slipcase. A very rare new edition, printed in a run of only 50 copies on Rives vellum paper, revised and corrected by the author. This edition is particularly sought-after due to the illustrations by Paul JOUVE (1878–1973), comprising 44 compositions engraved on wood and stone by the artist in collaboration with Gaston Prost, including one on the cover, 5 initials and 37 full-page illustrations. Each copy bears the handwritten signatures of the author and the artist in the colophon, and that of the publisher on the half-title page. This copy is numbered 5. The copy is in very good condition. There are simply some fingerprints in the margin of page 102.
