This expansion was further enhanced by the acquisition of the Clin laboratory in 1897. Taking advantage of technical progress and new means of communication, the Clin-Comar company rapidly exported its products throughout the world. In 1905, the Clin-Comar prize was awarded to the best medical students at international level. Cinnozyl, a drug developed after the First World War to combat tuberculosis, became one of the laboratory's flagship products. The Clin-Comar group was transformed into Clin-Byla in the 1950s, then Clin-Midy in 1971, before leading to the current Sanofi group. André Nivard, the official painter of the French Navy and Air Force, well known for his ultra-marine landscapes, was commissioned to produce the cardboard for our panel. This commission from the Comar family contained a number of symbols: Sainte-Geneviève, protector against disasters and epidemics, radiates throughout the world from Paris; medicinal plants are evoked by the gentians, foxgloves and poppies, as are serums by the confronted snakes, well-known medical symbols since Antiquity; pharmaceutical science and chemical progress are illustrated by the collection of microscopes and alembics as well as the medicine jar labelled "Acet Cupr" for copper acetate, recognised since time immemorial for its antiseptic virtues.
