The Spanish Jesuit and naturalist José d'Acosta, born in Medina del Campo around 1539, died in Salamanca on 15 February 1600. He was sent to the West Indies as second provincial of the Jesuit order in Peru and worked ardently for the conversion of the Indians.
His Histoire naturelle et morale des Indes (Natural and Moral History of the Indies), his most important book, was a great success and was translated into many languages (last Spanish edition in 1792). Binding a little worn, stain at the head, weak solidarity of the body of the book and the cover. Fair inside.
