Political and statistical history of the island of Hayti, Saint-Domingue.
In-8 (21.7 x 13.3 cm), aubergine half-chagrin, ribbed spine decorated with gilt designs (late 19th c. binding).
One large folded watercolour lithographed map and one folded printed table.
First edition of the first history of this island since its independence. It is based on official documents and notes provided by Sir James Barskett.
The map is taken from M. Buchon's Atlas de l'Amérique.
Very slight rubbing to spine ends, some scattered foxing. Small tears on the folds of the map.

Paris, Pillet aîné, 1819. 2 vol. in-8 (20,8 x 12,2 cm), fawn and green pebbled basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt designs, red title and appendices, marbled edges (period binding).
First edition.
Very large map of the island by Lapie and a plan of the siege of Crête-à-Pierrot engraved on copper, enhanced with watercolours and folded. One folded printed table.
Pamphile de Lacroix took part as a brigadier general in the Saint-Domingue expedition, the aim of which was to subdue the island liberated by Toussaint Louverture. The expedition failed and a peace treaty was signed on 9 May 1802. Two years later, the island gained its independence.
These events inspired Victor Hugo to write the second version of his Bug-Jargal.
Spines and corners slightly rubbed, tailbone of first volume more affected. Some foxing.
