Historical and political journey to Montenegro.
2 vol. in-8 (20,5 × 12 cm), blue half calf, spine ribbed and decorated, marbled edges (contemporary binding).
First edition of one of the first descriptions of this small autonomous principality between the Adriatic and the Ottoman Empire. Vialla de Sommières (1764-1849) was governor of Cattaro from 1807 to 1813, during the French occupation of Dalmatia.
It is illustrated with a folding map and 12 out-of-text figures, all copper-engraved and watercoloured.
Some foxing. Minor rubbing to the spines.
