5 parts in 3 vol. in-folio (57,5 × 41 cm), black half-chagrin, spine ribbed and decorated (modern binding).
First edition of this monumental work documenting the history of Algeria, in five parts: 1. Province of Algiers - 2. Province of Oran - 3. Province of Bone - 4. Province of Constantine - 5. Algerian races, coins, flora of Algeria.
Lavishly illustrated: chromolithographed title by Rigot, 136 lithographed plates including 2 maps with coloured outlines, a plan and 10 coloured botanical plates.
Arriving in Algiers in 1835, the author collected books and documents to build up the first collections of the Algiers library-museum, of which he was the first curator.
Volumes I and II, two spines split. Tomes II and III, marginal wetness. Minor stains and scuffing, corners dulled. Freckling and spotting; some plates entirely foxed. Tombs 2 and 3 inverted.
