3 vol. in-8 (20,5 × 12,6 cm) and one vol. gr. in-8 (23,1 × 14,6 cm), brown half calf with corners, smooth spine decorated with gilt motifs (contemporary binding).
First edition of the French translation.
The atlas contains a large copper-engraved folded map and 11 lithographed plates, one of which is folded.
Charged in 1830 with a mission in the interior of Asia, Burnes crossed the Punjab and Peshawar to reach Kabul. There he conducted negotiations to remove the Russian agents and preserve English domination of this part of the world.
Binding a little rubbed, spine and gilt a little faded. Some brown spots. Some marginal writing in pencil.
