[CIRCUMNAVIGATION] - ANSON (George), WALTER (Richard) Geneva, Henri-Albert Gosse, 1750. Voyage autour du monde, fait dans les années MDCCXL, I, II, III, IV. 3 vols. in-8 (19,6 x 11,5 cm) basane marbled porphyre, smooth spine decorated with gilt designs (contemporary binding). Second edition of the French translation, published the same year as the first. 34 large folded copper-engraved figures hors texte, including 12 maps. Binding rubbed (corners dulled, 4 headpieces missing, small splits at the spines). A few small tears to the figures (due to their size). ATTACHED TURNBULL (John). Voyage fait autour du monde, en 1800, 1801, 1802, 1803 et 1804. Paris, Xhrouet, Déterville, Lenormant, 1807. In-8 (20,1 x 12 cm), shagreened basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt designs, red title page (contemporary binding). First French edition. John Turnbull boarded the Margaret from Portsmouth on 1 July 1800 and sailed around the world until 1804, visiting Australia and the islands of Oceania (Norfolk, Sandwich, Hawaii and Tahiti) in particular. During his six-month stay in Tahiti, he witnessed the death of Queen Pomaré and was able to give an accurate account of the daily life of the natives.
