Description
BUCHOZ (Pierre-Joseph)
Paris, Lacombe, by the author, [1775]...
The first hundred illuminated and non-illuminated plates depicting the most interesting and curious animals, plants and minerals.
2 vol. in-folio (48,5 × 32 cm) half moss green basane with corners, smooth spine decorated with gilt motifs, red title and appendices (19th c. binding).
First edition of the first centurie (of two).
It consists of 10 engraved titles printed in different shades and 200 copper-engraved figures, 100 of which are hand-watercoloured.
This first centurie is supplemented here by the first 3 decades of the second centurie, bound in the 1st volume. There are 3 engraved titles and 60 copper-engraved figures, including 30 watercolours, in addition to those mentioned above.
Most of the figures were drawn by Desmoulins.
Bindings a little worn, spotting. Some rubbing, light wetness at the head of the 2nd volume, rare foxing; the plates of the 8th decade have been carried over and oxidised due to the absence of the serpents.
