An exceptional and very significant KIRMAN carpet – Iran
Shah era – Mid-20th century
Wool pile on a cotton backing. Density approximately 7,000 knots per dm².
Ruby-red field decorated with scrollwork of fine, crenellated stems ending in palmette motifs of finely rendered flowers and foliage in polychrome, arranged in twisted patterns framing a large, multi-lobed central rosette crowned with a floral border in navy blue, gold, ivory and old rose. Four spandrels with motifs echoing the central medallion.
Main border in midnight blue, decorated with interlacing floral bulbs and circles of fine branches with very precisely rendered foliage.
