NAPOLITAN LAUGHING WOMAN
“The effigy of Anna Foucart was adapted in 1863 with a Neapolitan hairstyle for the Laughing Neapolitan Woman. The Laughing Neapolitan Man, modelled on the Fisherman with a Shell and featuring added drapery, forms its counterpart.
In Carpeaux’s published works, these are the only busts that frequently appear as a pair, and their production is among the most prolific in the collection.
