An exceptional, large and rare Kazak Caucasus Circa 1870/80 Dimensions 292 x 152 cm (rare) In very fine condition, with remarkably vivid 19th-century vegetable dyes. Beautiful polychromy. High-pile velvety carpet (a sought-after quality and workmanship for Kazak carpets) Carpet has been cleaned Midnight blue field decorated with rows of crabs, a horse, hourglasses (symbolising the passing of time) and geometrically stylised tarantulas framing three multicoloured, crenellated medallions inlaid with spearheads or hunters’ arrows, and motifs echoing the central field.
